World Green Roof Day
World Green Roof Day, established by organizers from the European Federation EFB, falls on June 6 from 2020. The popularity of so-called vegetated roofs is growing year by year, but it is far from just a trendy matter. Green vegetation roofs are functional because they contribute to cooling the house and create a pleasant microclimate, especially in cities, where they replace the missing greenery.
Green roofs are becoming popular due to their benefits and the possibility of receiving government subsidies for their implementation. They cool down the house and the surrounding area, helping to create a pleasant microclimate. They also have practical advantages such as reducing dust, producing oxygen, and retaining rainwater. Green roofs can also absorb noise from the outside environment, providing a peaceful environment. They can significantly reduce water runoff compared to regular roofs, which helps to alleviate the burden on urban drainage systems. There is also an annual competition called "Green Roof of the Year" in the Czech Republic, where people can find inspiration and vote for their favorite green roofs.
