December 13th
Day of the Horse
Horse Day was created to commemorate and pay tribute to the cultural, historical and economic contributions that horses have made. Not only enthusiastic horse lovers can show their appreciation to these incredible creatures on his occasion.
There are many ways to celebrate and honor horses on Horse Day. Horse Day has been celebrated since 2004 as a way to recognize the role horses have played in our culture, from therapy to transportation and more. Horses have been on Earth for over 50 million years and there are over 400 different breeds. They live in herds and are highly social animals. Some interesting facts about horses include their ability to see almost 360 degrees, their larger eyes compared to other land mammals, and their ability to sleep standing up. To celebrate Horse Day, you can go horseback riding, raise awareness about the contributions of horses, care for your own horse, watch movies about horses, volunteer at a horse-focused nonprofit organization, or donate supplies or money to a reputable horse protection organization.
