June 15th
World Wind Day
On June 15, 2009, World Wind Day was held for the first time. And this is on the initiative of the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the World Wind Energy Council (GWEC), two important international organizations that coordinate the promotion of the use of wind energy on a European and global scale. The Czech Society for Wind Energy is also a member of EWEA.
June 15th is dedicated to wind energy, with World Wind Day celebrated worldwide. It is an opportunity to promote the use of wind energy and raise awareness about its benefits. Wind farms are a key source for Europe and the Czech Republic to reduce their dependence on energy imports from Russia. However, the lengthy process of obtaining permits for wind farms needs to be shortened. Wind energy, along with other renewable sources, can replace a significant amount of Russian gas imports within five years. Wind farms in the Czech Republic could generate between 6 and 19 million MWh of electricity annually by 2040. On June 17th, wind farms across the country will open their doors to the public, offering the opportunity to learn about the technology and speak with experts. The event is free and registration is not required.
