International Battery Day, celebrated on February 18th, commemorates the significance of batteries in modern society and celebrates the birth of Alessandro Volta, a pioneer in the field of electrochemistry. This day highlights the role of batteries in all aspects of our lives, from mobile phones to photovoltaic systems, and their importance in energy storage and accumulation. Batteries, originally discovered by Luigi Galvani in 1780, are essential for the efficient use of renewable energy sources and as backup sources during power outages or issues with connection to the distribution network.
Various types of batteries and factors important for their selection, such as cost, lifespan, and performance, are key for effective use in photovoltaic systems. Lithium batteries are particularly preferred due to their longer lifespan and higher number of charging cycles. Emphasis is also placed on proper maintenance and recycling of batteries at the end of their life cycle, which is necessary for sustainable development and environmental protection.
