International Dog Day

International Dog Day

Dog is human's best friend. It is like the last missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle that gives human life a sense of fulfillment. And that is why dogs deserve to have their own international holiday - Dog Day. This holiday was recognized in 2004 and is celebrated on August 26.

International Dog Day was established in 2004 by Colleen Paige, an American expert in pet behavior and advocate for animal rights. Dogs play a significant role in our daily lives, serving as companions, rescuers, police and airport dogs, and assisting people with disabilities. There are many ways to celebrate International Dog Day, such as taking your dog to a grooming salon, buying them gifts and treats, or spending time at a shelter with dogs in need. Donating to animal charities or adopting a dog are also ways to celebrate. Some interesting facts about dogs include the African hunting dog being the most successful hunter in the world and the Saluki being the oldest dog breed, dating back to 329 BCE. Different dog breeds also have unique characteristics, such as Shar-Peis and Chow Chows having black tongues and Dalmatians being deaf in one ear. Greyhounds are exceptional long-distance runners, capable of maintaining a speed of approximately 55 km/h.
