Endangered Species Day

Endangered Species Day

Endangered Species Day is an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about the importance of protecting endangered species and the everyday actions they can take to help protect them. Held every third Friday in May, it is organized by the Endangered Species Coalition, whose mission is to stop the human-caused extinction of endangered species, protect and restore their habitats, and lead these fragile populations on the road to recovery.

The critically endangered animal species in the Czech Republic include the river crayfish (Astacus fluviatilis) and the freshwater mussel (Unio pictorum). The list of strongly endangered species includes the common toad (Bufo bufo), the European otter (Lutra lutra), and the black stork (Ciconia nigra), among others. The list of endangered species includes the Apollo butterfly (Parnassius apollo), the European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus), and the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), among others.
