European Sustainable Development Week

European Sustainable Development Week

The European Sustainable Development Week (ETUR) is a pan-European festival of events that promote the ideas of sustainable development and, with it, organizations and individuals who live sustainably. Tens of thousands of people across Europe take part in it every year. In the Czech Republic, it is covered by the Ministry of the Environment, which will also offer its own interesting events as part of ETUR.

The European Week of Sustainable Development, which promotes the ideas and goals of sustainable development, will take place from September 20th to 26th. The week will feature a variety of events, including lectures, discussions, exhibitions, nature walks, and quizzes. Anyone can participate by organizing or attending these events. Coca-Cola, a global leader in sustainability, is the patron of the event. The company is committed to using renewable energy for beverage production in the Czech Republic and aims to be carbon neutral by 2040. Sustainable development is about managing our natural, cultural, material, and spiritual wealth in a way that ensures its availability for future generations. It is not about unnecessary belt-tightening, but rather about ensuring well-being. Sustainable development is a way of thinking about the world that aims to bring common sense back into our management practices. It can be described in three interconnected pillars: environmental, economic, and social. The environmental pillar focuses on reducing pollution, using resources efficiently, protecting ecosystems, and addressing climate change. The economic pillar addresses economic growth, unemployment, international trade, globalization, regional development, and the organization of businesses in relation to the other two pillars. The social pillar focuses on cohesion between generations and social groups, equal rights, access to education, and poverty reduction.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals provide a practical framework for changing our way of life to be environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable. These goals include ending poverty and hunger, ensuring good health and well-being, promoting quality education, achieving gender equality, ensuring clean water and sanitation, promoting affordable and clean energy, fostering sustainable economic growth, building resilient infrastructure, promoting sustainable industrialization, reducing inequality, making cities and communities sustainable, ensuring responsible consumption and production, taking urgent action to combat climate change, conserving and sustainably using marine resources, protecting terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity, promoting peaceful and inclusive societies, and revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development.
