International Dark Sky Week

International Dark Sky Week

The International Dark Sky Association organizes International Dark Sky Week every year to raise awareness of the negative effects of light pollution. This annual event was conceived in 2003 by then high school student Jennifer Barlow, and since then International Week has grown to become a global event.

The International Dark Sky Week takes place annually during the new moon week in April. It was founded in 2003 by Jennifer Barlow and has since become a global event. The purpose of the week is to raise awareness about light pollution and its negative effects on wildlife, human health, energy consumption, climate change, and our ability to observe the night sky. Light pollution is increasing at a rapid pace, with 83% of the world's population living under light-polluted skies. The Dark Sky Movement aims to bring better lighting to communities worldwide to promote the flourishing of all life. Join us during this International Dark Sky Week to learn more about the movement and experience the night in a new way.
