June 7th
World Food Safety Day
World Food Safety Day (WFSD), which is celebrated on June 7, calls for a further increase in food safety and a reduction in the global increase in food-borne diseases. The proposal for its announcement within the United Nations (UN) was approved by the Codex Alimentarius Commission in 2016.
The World Food Safety Day, established by the United Nations in 2018, aims to raise awareness about food safety and inspire further actions in the prevention, recognition, and management of food risks. Foodborne diseases affect 1 in 10 people worldwide every year, and food standards help ensure the safety of what we eat. The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, addresses food safety through various activities and serves as a contact point for communication with the European Food Safety Authority. Despite the high level of food safety guaranteed by the regulatory systems of the EU and the Czech Republic, it is important to continuously raise awareness about food safety. More information can be found on the websites of FAO, WHO, and EFSA.
