Bird Watch
Ptačí hodinka is the name of the annual bird census organized by the Czech Ornithological Society in cooperation with the Austrian ornithological society Birdlife Österreich and the Bavarian ornithological society LBV. The methodology is common to the Czechia, Bavaria and Austria, so the results can also be compared across borders.
The Czech Society for Ornithology (ČSO) is organizing the 6th annual Bird Watch in January 2024. The event aims to count wintering birds and gather data on their distribution. Participants can observe birds at their bird feeders, gardens, balconies, or any chosen location. The most commonly observed species in previous years were tits, sparrows, blackbirds, and doves. The event also highlights the importance of responsible feeding and provides educational materials for participants. The data collected during the Bird Watch is crucial for understanding the impact of climate change on bird migration patterns.
