April 28

World Day of Safety and Health at Work

World Day of Safety and Health at Work

Every year since 2003, April 28 belongs to victims of work-related accidents or occupational diseases. This day was declared by the International Labor Organization and is also a memorial to those who have died or been injured while performing work.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes social justice and labor rights on an international scale. It was founded in 1919 and aims to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to obtain decent and productive work under conditions of freedom, equity, security, and human dignity.
Every year, approximately 23 million men and women lose their lives due to work-related accidents or occupational diseases, which amounts to around 6,300 deaths per day. Additionally, there are approximately 317 million work-related accidents and 160 million occupational diseases recorded worldwide each year.
Furthermore, every 15 seconds, one worker dies as a result of a work-related accident or occupational disease, and there are 153 work-related accidents occurring every 15 seconds.
These alarming statistics highlight the importance of promoting and implementing proper safety and health practices in the workplace to protect workers and reduce the economic burden associated with poor safety practices.
