World Snake Day

World Snake Day

Held every year on July 16, World Snake Day aims to raise awareness of the more than 3,500 species of snakes that exist around the world.

The World Snake Day is a day dedicated to changing the negative perception of snakes and promoting love for all living beings, including those we fear. Snakes have been part of ancient mythologies and various religions, often depicted in a negative light. The word "snake" comes from the Old English word "snaca," and snakes are believed to have evolved from terrestrial lizards millions of years ago. Celebrating World Snake Day can involve visiting a zoo to learn about different snake species, raising awareness about non-venomous snakes, organizing a drawing class or competition to appreciate the beauty of snakes, and sharing interesting facts about snakes, such as their lack of eyelids, their ability to smell with their tongues, their inability to chew, and the fact that they are found on every continent except Antarctica.
