Starting in 2023, November 26 is celebrated as the UN World Day for Sustainable Transport. At the heart of this initiative is the recognition of sustainable, low-emission and energy-efficient modes of transport as essential factors contributing to climate change mitigation and adaptation. In addition, these modes of transport play a vital role in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations.
The patron of the World Day of Sustainable Transport is the company FlixBus, a pioneer in the field of sustainable transport - a modern fleet and the possibility of offsetting. The vision of FlixBus is to become 100% carbon neutral by 2040. You can help too! Prefer green buses to traveling by car (up to 80% CO2 savings) or by plane (up to 90% CO2 savings), first choose your route when booking with FlixBus and then simply tick contribution to climate protection.
On May 16, 2023, the United Nations General Assembly declared November 26 as World Sustainable Transport Day. This decision aims to promote cooperation in sustainable transport and support the global commitment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement, the New Urban Agenda, and the Political Declaration on Enhancing Global Road Safety. The UN resolution calls on all member states, international and regional organizations, and civil society to commemorate World Sustainable Transport Day through education and events that raise public awareness of sustainable transport. FlixBus, a green long-distance bus company, has become a proud patron of World Sustainable Transport Day. By choosing a long-distance bus over a car or plane, passengers can reduce their carbon footprint by up to 90%. FlixBus also allows travelers to offset their emissions, and the company is committed to decarbonizing its fleet and becoming carbon-neutral in Europe by 2040. FlixBus is testing electric and biogas-powered buses and equipping standard buses with solar panels. The company sees great potential in biogas buses, which are almost carbon-neutral and offer comparable range and refueling time to diesel buses. FlixBus is also developing a wide infrastructure of refueling stations for biogas buses in Germany. In addition to World Sustainable Transport Day, the EKOkalendář project by UKliďme Česko offers more than 240 environmental holidays and events, along with 365 eco-tips for each day.
